church and community
Redemptive Contextual Placemaking.
We approach church and community projects with a posture of service.
We start by listening - understanding the site, meeting the community, attending services, running workshops.
We design with care - shaping spaces that reflect doxology and belief, at times challenging convention, and pushing communities and churches to look outward.
We help unite communities around a shared common vision and purpose.
As we do so, we have seen impact: that good can radiate out from architecture - in ways that reach far beyond built space.

Rethinking Churches.
In 2026 we are embarking on a new journey to walk alongside local churches in intentional, thoughtful design.
We’re currently working with Dr Andrew Ball, a former denominational leader of Churches of Christ in NSW, to develop a toolkit that will provide key understanding and framework for church projects.
Our role as Architects will be different from what you are expecting. For us, the building response comes as the final pieces of the puzzle. Before then, there’s so much to explore, untangle and understand together.
We’re excited that Heights Church in Jamboree Heights has begun implementing the first stage of their Masterplan. New projects in St Lucia and Enoggera are under way, and we’re always on the lookout for more opportunities to lead, guide and serve.

Spark
Let’s spark something new.
The first step of our project process is intended to spark and energise discussions within your church. Spark stage provides a high-level overview of the current facility, and strategy to address current pain points.
-
Masterplan
Envisioning a Purpose-Driven Future.
Working with an expanded group of stakeholders (usually ministry leaders level), we help churches come up with an integrated vision for their building. We go beyond addressing current pain points, to imagining future building possibilities for authentic, redemptive community.
-
Concept
Pushing forward and defining the Architectural Response.
In Concept we begin stepping into the Project Process with more certainty. The key goal of this stage is to begin defining the architectural response with more detail. By the end of Concept, we should have a clarified idea of the architectural interventions in each project stage, with sufficient detail to obtain high-level Cost Estimates from a qualified Quantity Surveyor.
-
Design Development
Accurately defining the Project Scope.
Design Development is the bulk of the project process, and the key goal is to confirm and describe the project scope. Any Council Development Application work is also included with this stage. In most cases, we will be limiting our work to the stages to be constructed in the near to medium term only.
-
Documentation and Onwards
Bringing the project to life.
After Design Development is complete, we will walk with you through technical Documentation, Pricing and Construction stages of the project.
Each church project is slightly different, and we will cater to your needs. Our posture is to work constructively and collaboratively, understanding that our role as Architects calls us to lead, guide and serve.

Got questions? You’re not alone. Here are some quick responses to bring some clarity, but most church projects begin with a coffee between us and one of your core leaders.

Redemptive means that there is a way that things were intended to be. There’s a picture of restoration, of making something beautiful out of what already is. We reinterpret the Praxis Redemptive Frame to equip and help churches understand the “why” behind their buildings.

Contextual architecture aims for 24/7 churches that are uniquely localised, are authentic expressions of living faith and benefit communities, neighbourhoods and cities. We work with leading thinkers to help churches understand how this applies to their unique location and context.

We’re for an architecture of welcoming and belonging that connects people to time and place. This architectural challenge sounds almost like a faith one, doesn’t it?
Placemaking is about our architectural response to all the foundational Redemptive and Contextual conversations. The architecture is thus intentional, thought-through, uniquely yours, and something for your church to unite around and get excited about.

Yes - although every time a small query seems to morph into something else! From our perspective, We always advocate for churches to develop a Masterplan, even if the initial building project is something relatively small. The Masterplan provides a cohesive vision for the property, and certainty that small steps are moving towards a greater whole.

We’ve helped four churches so far, but it’s true that church projects often take a long time to get off the ground. Rest assured that our team brings considerable larger-project experience in education, commercial and sports facility sectors. We’re committed to combining this with the same thoughtfulness, intentionality and care that we bring to our housing work.

We’ve spent our first ten years training in the fertile grounds of house projects. This means doing small, meaningful things and being clever with available budgets. Themed spaces, structural efficiencies, thoughtfulness and intent are ever-present in our housing projects, and are also critical to the success of local church facilities. Along with our team’s big project experience, we churches as a natural fit for who we are and what we’re good at.
We also bring depth of insight and small church understanding into the mix. This makes us fundamentally different (opposed perhaps?) to others who see the design of churches as only spaces for community.
